Park District Junior Golf Programs - King's Walk 2011

Youth Golf Program (Boy’s and Girl’s Age 9-15)
   Supervised by Dan Tannahill
The Pee-Wee Golf Program is designed to advance the skills of junior golfers from beginners to those more advanced. Youths will learn the fundamentals of the golf swing, putting stroke, short game shots and golf course etiquette. These instructional skills are combined with games and competitions that make the youth program an experience that all young golfers are sure to enjoy. The program employs the area’s PGA golf instructors and golf coaches. Seven week program begins June 7th. Cost $47.50

Pee-Wee Pass - Interested participants in the youth golf program will be issued a “pee-wee pass”. It will allow program participants some access to golf with an adult during these allotted days and times after June 14th. Lincoln Park – all weeknights after 7pm and weekends after 5:30pm. King’s Walk – A free bucket of balls at King’s Walk any Sat. or Sun. in June and July.

League Day at Lincoln Park
Every participant entered in the Park District Youth Golf Program age 9 and above will have the opportunity to play at Lincoln Park on Thursday mornings. Juniors will be grouped together with others of the same ability. Each will play 4-9 holes depending on ability and endurance. Some supervision will be on site.
  Runs: June 16th – July 21st (six weeks)
  Show up times – (13-15 year old 8:30am) – (11-12 year old 8:45am) – (9-10 year olds 9:15am)

Junior Golfers
Girls Golf Program - Tuesday 12:00am -1:00pm - Starts June 7th
This program is designed specifically for girls interested in golf. All abilities, from beginners to those wishing to compete on the high school golf teams will have the opportunity to improve their skills in a relaxed and fun setting. The program is run by Sue Ann Lund, girl’s golf coach at Red River. Cost - $47.50
Wee Linksters - Boy's and Girl's age 6-8
This program is designed to introduce youngsters to the game of golf. Young golfers will learn the basics of the full swing & short game and how to take their skills to the course. We focus on fun, safety, and golf etiquette while incorporating games and contests to keep the kids attention. Seven week program begins June 8th. Cost $42.50 - * children must have completed kindergarten to register for Session 4 & 5. (Class size limited)

Minimum Recommended Equipment for all classes
1 Fairway Wood or Driver, 2 Short Irons, Putter and bag (Clubs should be proper length with the longest club in the set no longer than mid torso)

Thursday’s 9:00am-12:30pm. Ages 12-17 - Starts June 9th
The first junior golf development program of its kind in our area. This new program is not just about teaching junior golfers technique and swing. Rather, it’s a comprehensive approach focused on training young golfers as athletes. In addition to technique, instructors will concentrate on the aspects of the game such as the mental game, fitness, course management, practice efficiency, pre-shot routine, and emotion control. This kind of program has been developing college and tour players in other parts of the country; and now it’s available right here in the Grand Forks. This is for serious golfers only. Applications for those interested must be turned in by June 1st. Picked one up at King’s Walk or download it below. Only 16 students will be selected to participate. Proper golf attire required. Held at King’s Walk Golf Course and Practice Facility. $125 per student (8 weeks) Dan Tannahill – instructor

King’s Walk Youth Camps
Boys and Girls age 11-15 – May 31st, June 1st, & 2rd T/W/TH
Youth camps are designed to give area juniors an opportunity to receive 15 hours golf and 9 hours of P.G.A. Professional instruction over a period of 3 days. A small student to instructor ratio is provided so that juniors interested in becoming better players have every chance to learn the fundamentals required to play their best golf. Instruction, combined with many activities, make the experience a must for area junior golfers.

Sample of Daily Schedule
8-11am - Range work, short game clinics, and various contests – 11:00am Lunch
11:15-1pm - 9 holes of golf (tournament on the last day)
Cost - $90.00 per student (Includes: PGA Instruction, lunch each day, green fees & prizes)

Junior Golf Junior Tour - Organized competitive golf tournaments
Played Monday mornings at the areas different golf courses. Juniors are broken down by age and gender. Area youths who wish to participate must have golf experience before entering these tournaments.
• Boys/girls 14-17 year olds play 18 holes and need to be at the course at 8:00am.
• Boys/girls 12-13 year old play nine holes and should be at the course by 9:00am.
• Cost - 18 holes -$7.00 per event or $35 for all events - 9 holes -$4.00 per event
